ADN 411 - Essentials of Pediatric Nursing


Prerequisites:
BIO 151 , BIO 168 , BIO 173 , BIO 186 , EDU 160  OR PSY 121  

Students need a minimum grade of C-, and a cumulative GPA of 2.7
Corequisites:
ADN 404 , ADN 431 , ADN 471 , ADN 553  

Student must maintain a grade of B- or 80% in all ADN classes.

This course focuses on the principles of growth and development to provide nursing care for families with infants, children, or adolescents. Students explore the role of families, pediatric health promotion, children with special needs, and acute and chronic childhood illnesses. The clinical component includes clinical or virtual clinical hours, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a simulated, interactive environment.



Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Articulate the influences of heredity, environment, culture, and family on the growth and development of children.
  2. Assess common health problems in children and identify appropriate health promotion activities utilizing the current goals of comprehensive pediatric care.
  3. Utilize the nursing process to provide care to children and families.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate communication strategies to interact with children and families.
  5. Utilize current technology to facilitate education and provide care to children and families.
  6. Apply principles of pediatric nursing through virtual clinical hours, emphasizing assessment, health promotion, and management of pediatric conditions in a simulated environment.
