A systematic study of the principles, theory and methods of inorganic chemistry with an emphasis on scientific measurement, atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding, nomenclature, stoichiometry, chemical reactions, gases, liquids, solids and thermochemistry. This is the first course in a sequence of two general chemistry courses for students in pre-med,  pre-vet, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-engineering and other physical or biological sciences.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Examine the properties of matter qualitatively.
  2. Perform quantitative manipulations occurring during chemical and physical changes.
  3. Examine atomic structure of matter.
  4. Examine the chemical forces that hold the components of matter together.
  5. Predict the properties of matter based upon periodicity.
  6. Acquire experience working in a laboratory setting.
