Introduction to the principles of molecular genetics of plants, animals, and bacteria. Includes methods of transmission, recombination, structure and replication of DNA, gene expression, cloning, and population genetics.

Course Learning Outcomes

Define and apply the principles of Mendelian Genetics.
Explain the chromosomal theory of inheritance.
Describe the molecular basis of heredity.
Outline the process and applications of DNA fingerprinting.
Identify the mechanisms involved in transference of genes.
Discuss the importance of population genetics in evolution.
Examine the importance of gene therapies, cloning and DNA forensics and the ethical considerations involved in these topics.
