MAT 121 - College Algebra


Prerequisites:
Primary placement method used for any student whose high school transcript can be interpreted for use with the calculation spreadsheet:  High School GPA + High School Math composite calculation >= 5

or, for students where we cannot use the composite high school calculation:

or ACT math score of 22 or better

or Accuplacer Arithmetic score of 275 or better

or grade of C- or better in MAT 110

This course is designed to provide students with a foundation in algebra. Topics include coordinate geometry, complex numbers, linear, quadratic, and polynomial expressions, functions, graphing, systems of linear equations, exponential and logarithmic expressions, and matrices.



Course Learning Outcomes
1. Utilize algebraic equations and reasoning to solve problems.

2. Evaluate and graph single variable linear, quadratic, and polynomial equations.

3. Solve for the zeros of equations using a variety of methods.

4. Solve problems involving rational expressions and unit conversions.
