A beginning-level course in the Spanish language that takes a communicative approach to developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students also develop an awareness of Hispanic culture in other countries and in the United States.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Express ideas using regular and irregular verbs in the present tense.

2. Identify and use key vocabulary about greetings and introductions, academic life, the family, and pastimes and sports.

3. Perform elemental functions in Spanish such as greetings, spelling out words, counting, telling time, and using adjectives.

4. Recognize and appreciate cultural information, such as geography, holidays, social customs, music, artists, writers, and more.
