CHM 263 - Organic Chemistry I AA Approved
Prerequisites: CHM 175 or CHM 176 (with C or above) or instructor’s approval STANDARD 5 credit(s)
A study of the principles of organic chemistry, with an emphasis on nomenclature, structure, bonding, synthesis, reaction mechanisms and spectroscopy. This course combined with CHM 273, is designed to satisfy the one year of organic chemistry requirement for most of physical science, biological science, pre-medical and pre-veterinary programs.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Explain observations and reactions in organic chemistry at a molecular level.
- Describe organic molecules using correct structural information and nomenclature
- Identify, characterize and describe organic reactions.
- Describe the principles of different characterization methods and interpret data to elucidate structural information.
- Demonstrate proficiency using various laboratory techniques in organic chemistry.
