Survey of biochemistry that will include topics such as structure and function of amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids; enzymology; metabolism; biosynthesis; and selected topics.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Describe the structure and function of the 4 major classes of biomolecules.
- Perform calculations related to aqueous systems, pH, energy, enzyme kinetics and inhibition.
- Describe experimental techniques used in the purification and analysis of proteins.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of DNA technology applications.
- Explain the dynamics of biological membranes and signal transduction.
- Describe metabolic processes involved with the main classes of biomolecules and their metabolic regulation.
