CHM 271 - Organic Chemistry II AA Approved
Prerequisites: CHM 261 or instructor’s approval STANDARD CREDIT TYPE 4 credit(s)
A continuation of CHM 261 covering aromatic substitution arenas, carbonyls, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, amines, phenols, and physiologically active molecules. Some topics of biochemistry are introduced.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Identify and classify organic molecules using correct IUPAC nomenclature and structural information. |
2. Describe reactions of different classes of organic molecules providing all conditions and reagents required and predicting outcomes. |
3. Explain organic reactions by proposing mechanistic pathways. |
4. Combine individual reactions schemes in a logical sequence to propose multi-step synthetic schemes for small organic molecules. |
5. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the structure and function of different classes of bio-molecules. |
6. Demonstrate proficiency using various organic laboratory techniques. |
