Prerequisites: CHM 175 or instructor’s approval STANDARD CREDIT TYPE 4 credit(s)
A study of the synthesis, properties and uses of common classes of organic compounds with emphasis on nomenclature, structural principles, and reaction mechanisms. Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, polymers, stereo-chemistry and benzene are covered.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Explain observations and reactions in organic chemistry at a molecular level. |
2. Describe organic molecules using correct structural information and nomenclature |
3. Identify and characterize organic reactions. |
4. Describe the principles of different characterization methods and interpret data to elucidate structural information. |
5. Demonstrate proficiency using various laboratory techniques in organic chemistry. |
