A study of the synthesis, properties and uses of common classes of organic compounds with emphasis on nomenclature, structural principles, and reaction mechanisms. Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, polymers, stereo-chemistry and benzene are covered.



Course Learning Outcomes
1. Explain observations and reactions in organic chemistry at a molecular level.
2. Describe organic molecules using correct structural information and nomenclature
3. Identify and characterize organic reactions.
4. Describe the principles of different characterization methods and interpret data to elucidate structural information.
5. Demonstrate proficiency using various laboratory techniques in organic chemistry.
