Criminal Justice, Transfer Major AA

The Criminal Justice Associate of Arts Transfer Major is designed for students interested in preparing to go directly into careers in the Criminal Justice field or transferring to a four-year institution, including the Iowa Regents Universities, to continue their Criminal Justice education and/or prepare for graduate level work such as law school. The Criminal Justice Associate of Arts Transfer Major provides students an introduction into all areas of the American Criminal Justice System including Law Enforcement, the Courts, and Corrections and includes core courses in Juvenile Delinquency, Criminology, and Introduction to Criminal Justice along with a number of elective courses chosen based upon a student’s particular interests and career goals.

Communications (9 Credit Hours)


Maximum of three credit hours can be taken from SPC prefix.

Math and Science (10 Credit Hours)


Select remaining credit hours from AA Approved Courses in Math and Science list below.

Distributed Education (3 Credit Hours)


Select from AA Approved Courses in Humanities, Social/Behavioral Science, and Math and Science list below.

Required Electives (9 Credit Hours)


Computer Education (3 Credit Hours)


Physical Education (2 Credit Hours)


Student Development (1 Credit Hour)


Electives (9 Credit Hours)


All transfer courses may be used here including courses listed above (if additional are taken beyond requirements). Students should plan their elective courses according to their college major if they are planning to transfer on for a four year degree.

A maximum of 16 hours of vocational-technical credits may apply toward elective credit with a maximum of 9 of the 16 being independent projects or experimental courses. No more than 6 activity credits (those having prefixes of PEA, MUA, and some MUS courses) may be applied to elective credits. Developmental courses do not apply towards degree requirements.
