IND 125 - Introduction to Process Control

A study of control terminology and theory, control systems and controller circuit design, controller operation, maintenance, alignment, calibration, and tuning are covered. Application and operation of relays in the control circuit is covered.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Describe and follow safety rules required when working on process-controlled systems.
2. Describe process control applications, process variables, and the operation of closed and open-loop systems.
3. Describe the function and types of instrument tags and the information found on the tags.
4. Describe block and P&ID diagrams and recognize the symbols used in both.
5. Describe loop controller categories, the function and construction of electronic loop controllers, the controller parameters, and the operation of the controllers.
6. Describe I/P converter function, construction, operation, and calibration.
7. Describe proportional control valves, their types, and how they are used in process control systems.
8. Describe relay based on/off control, process meter on/off control, closed loop liquid level control, and discrete input and output functions and how they apply to liquid level control.
9. Define resolution, accuracy and repeatability, and open and closed loop tuning for level control
