Understand the nature of the universe, including the earth as a celestial body, the sun, the moon, our solar system, and the galaxies. This supplemental lab course emphasizes field experiences in naked eye and telescopic observation techniques as well as data analysis and laboratory techniques for measurement.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Identify and manipulate fundamental astronomical quantities and their units of measurement.
- Understand physical laws and principles which are applicable to astronomical phenomenon at a qualitative and quantitative level.
- Apply scientific methods in the laboratory to test physical principles which apply to astronomy and telescopes.
- Identify and classify objects in the universe, including solar system objects, stars, nebulae, stellar clusters, galaxies and clusters of galaxies
