A study of the synthesis, properties and uses of common classes of organic compounds with emphasis on nomenclature, structural principles, and reaction mechanisms. Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, polymers, stereo-chemistry and benzene are covered. Course is Lecture only.

- Explain observations and reactions in organic chemistry at a molecular level.
- Describe organic molecules using correct structural information and nomenclature.
- Identify and characterize organic reactions.
- Describe the principles of different characterization methods and interpret data to elucidate structural information.
