ESP 220 - Esports Industry Trends

Examine popular culture both inside and outside of the competitive gaming industry. Students will gain an understanding of how trends evolve and transform within the entertainment industry. Students will learn how to apply this knowledge in order to anticipate market changes and develop games for targeted audiences. A focus will be placed on discussing new and evolving technologies as well as current events in the entertainment industry.



Course Learning Outcomes
Upon taking this course, students should be able to:

 

  1. Identify current and developing technologies in the world of gaming.  Examples of this will include: VR, the metaverse, new and current console platforms, upcoming and current development engines, and current versus future gaming hardware.
  2. Articulate major cultural moments within the history of gaming and speak to how they affected digital culture at large, as well as development of specific titles.
  3. Identify significant market changes in gaming history and articulate how changes in payment models affected game creation and development.
