GIS 128 - Intro to UAV Systems & Flights

This introductory course is designed to give students knowledge of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operations. Topics include an overview of the different types of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Systems, FAA rules and regulations, National Air Space, data collection, safety measures and best practices, risk management, roles and responsibilities, operational planning, and a basic understanding of flight controls. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to successfully pass the FAA’s Part 107 exam.

1. Outline the history and future application of UAV systems.
2. Discuss the importance and value of implementing UAV systems
3. Learn the basic types of UAV systems and requirements for operating

4. Identify and discuss the FAA rules and regulations of properly operating a UAV

5. Identify the different types of data collection equipment.
6. Understand the safety measures and best practices for operating a UAV system
7. Learn how to plan a UAV flight operation
8. Know how to properly operate the different types of UAV systems
