Surveys the major landforms of Iowa, including the Mississippi River Valley, Northern Prairie Lakes Region, Loess Hills and Southern Hills Area. Landforms are emphasized from the standpoint of climate, soils, geology, water resources, forestry, wildlife and environmental concerns.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Explain how the principles of geology relate to the Iowa landscape.
- Identify the seven land-forms of Iowa.
- List the major groups of plants and their key characteristics that are part of Iowa’s native vegetation.
- Discuss potential conservation and management strategies to counteract specific anthropogenic effects on Iowa’s habitats.
