GUS 140 - Checkering I

Learn an overview of the building of a sporter style rifle stock from a stock blank. Study in stock design, wood cutting hand tools and their application, stock layout, wood selection, routing and inletting, forend tip and grip cap installation, shaping, recoil pad installation, sanding, finishing and refinishing with oil based finishes.

1. Describe and demonstrate how to properly select the correct tools for project.
2. Demonstrate how to use a checkering cradle, and how to properly adjust.
3. Describe and demonstrate pattern layout.
4. Demonstrate layout of master lines.
5. Demonstrate diamond sizing.

7. Demonstrate proper pointing techniques.
8. Describe the use of borders, and their types.
