AGA 376 - Integrated Pest Management

Explores Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for major Iowa crops, including corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. Students will learn to identify and manage key insect pests, weeds, and diseases using economic thresholds, scouting techniques, and sustainable control methods. Emphasis will be placed on real-world crop scouting, proper pesticide selection and application, and the principles of resistance management. Students will prepare for and complete Iowa pesticide applicator certification exams 1A, 1B, and 1B.



Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify and assess common agronomic pests, diseases, and weeds in Iowa crop systems.
  2. Apply IPM principles to develop effective pest management plans.
  3. Conduct field scouting using industry-standard techniques and reporting methods.
  4. Design pesticide application programs with pesticides that are currently available.
  5. Prepare for and complete the Iowa pesticide applicator exams 1A, 1B, and 1C.
