Focus on basic principles of wild animal husbandry and rehabilitation. An emphasis is placed on handling and rehabilitation efforts, including care for sick, injured or orphaned wild animals.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Define and discuss what wildlife rehabilitation is and the role of the rehabilitator in conservation.

2. Explain the ethics and safety concerns in the field of Wildlife Rehabilitation.

3. Identify the laws and the organizations that govern wildlife rehabilitation and help set the standards for care.

4. Identify the species most commonly treated in wildlife rehabilitation and their key anatomical and physiological differences.

5. Describe the housing, hygiene, nutrition and zoonosis control standards for wildlife kept in captivity

6. Describe the techniques involved in the complete rehabilitation cycle from intake evaluations, rehab exercises, and end-stage options.

7. Perform the following: daily fluid and nutrient calculations, physical examinations, wing bandaging, tube feeding placement, and fluid administration.
