DEA 503 - Principles of Dental Assisting CAREER AND TECHNICAL CREDIT TYPE 4.5 credit(s)
Provides instruction on the principles of clinical chair side dental assisting: dental equipment use, care, maintenance, and safety; oral evacuation and instrument transfer; instrument identification; and tray set-ups by procedures for oral diagnosis, operative dentistry, and anesthesia. Emphasis is on patient management during restorative procedures, including applied infection control methods.
Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify and relate the role of modern dental assisting and historical information.
2. Maintain his or her personal conduct per the profession’s legal and ethical standards.
3. Discuss psychological aspects of patient care in a variety of dental situations.
4. Identify instruments and equipment used in patient treatment.
