This course covers the fundamentals of animal nutrition and diet preparation for select invertebrate and vertebrate species. Topics include nutrient requirements, comparative digestion processes, and dietary deficiency disorders.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Identify the differences in the digestive system of invertebrates, invertebrate, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
- Identify feedstuffs that provide sources of energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, and water.
- Describe the dietary deficiency commonly encountered in captive animal husbandry.
- Demonstrate the understanding of requirements by development of a feeding management plan for selected species.
