Prerequisites: High school algebra or equivalent STANDARD CREDIT TYPE 3 credit(s)
Basic information for better understanding the nature of the universe, including the earth as a celestial body, the sun, the moon, our solar system, and the galaxies. Field experience in naked eye and telescopic observation techniques. Various types and construction of telescopes.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Identify and manipulate fundamental astronomical quantities and their units of measurement.
- Understand physical laws and principles which are applicable to astronomical phenomena at a qualitative and quantitative level.
- Apply scientific methods to test physical principles which apply to astronomy and telescopes.
- Identify and classify objects in the universe, including solar system objects, stars, nebulae, stellar clusters, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies.
