Basic information for better understanding the nature of the universe, including the earth as a celestial body, the sun, the moon, our solar system, and the galaxies. Field experience in naked eye and telescopic observation techniques. Various types and construction of telescopes.



Course Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify and manipulate fundamental astronomical quantities and their units of measurement.
  2. Understand physical laws and principles which are applicable to astronomical phenomena at a qualitative and quantitative level.
  3. Apply scientific methods to test physical principles which apply to astronomy and telescopes.
  4. Identify and classify objects in the universe, including solar system objects, stars, nebulae, stellar clusters, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies.
