AGE 140 - Introduction to Equine Riding


CAREER AND TECHNICAL CREDIT TYPE
3 credit(s)

This course is designed to help prepare students for AGE145, Fundamentals of Riding. Students will demonstrate riding skills enabling them to be able to control a horse, at a walk, trot and canter in English, Western and Bareback Seats without assistance. Students must also demonstrate the ability to complete both English Equitation and Western Horsemanship patterns upon completion of this course.



Course Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate the correct procedures for handling horses on the gorund through introductory skills and ground work techniques. 

2. Demonstrate the correct procedures for tacking up and un-tacking horses.

3. Demonstrate correct riding skills enabling the students to be able to control a horse independently at the walk, trot and canter while riding in a western and english seat.

4. Demonstrate the ability to complete Western Horsemanship and English Equitation patterns without assistance by dictating to the horse completely through every manuver of the pattern.
